To be fair I don't know much about Ossian. But the end of The Sorrows of Young Werther where Werther is reading Ossian to Lotte is quite moving. And so is this painting, in a way.

Ossian was supposedly a Scotch epic but actually a fraud. Nevertheless its romanticism had a big cultural impact. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ossian
