This Side of Paradise -- Fitzgerald

Excellent treatment of the development of the young intellectual. Note Fitzgerald's use of the Nietzschean term 'Superman' to describe Amory's view of himself. Then read the allegory of the Tightrope Walker in the prologue of Thus Spake Zarathustra. The theme of dynamic intellectuals mistaking themselves for the Ubermensch is a tasty one. I wrote a paper on it, available here: http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AcVJ0wnerH1qZHpwZDlxc18xMDBwdHp0M3BmNw&hl=en
