The Agnew Clinic -- Eakins

Haunting painting. In my opinion a perfect example of the meticulously and disturbingly well-crafted emotional nature of Eakin's work; there is always a lingering feeling about his images, like there is a disease in the canvas or arsenic in the paint. I am reminded suddenly of Goya's Black Paintings (already explored on this blog). Check out also The Gross Clinic and the Swimming Hole.
