Scriabin: Deux Poemes, Op. 32
Here is Vladimir Ashkenazy playing Scriabin's "Deux Poemes," Op. 32.
I really like the first of the two. It has some really interesting harmonies and textures -- in one of the sections, the right hand is playing groups of 5 while the left hand simultaneously plays groups of 3. I think Ashkenazy does a really good job of making this sound natural. At certain points, however, I think he creates too thick and rich a sound. I am fairly sure that Scriabin intended the piece to be very ethereal, almost languid (one of the sections is marked "inaferando;" incidentally, "languid" was a word Scriabin often used to describe the way in which his music was to be played, reinforcing my theory that the first of the pieces is to be as light and ethereal as possible). Sheet music can be found here.
